Brookline 2007 Unsung Hero Awards misc Each year BCF awards an Unsung Hero Award to one adult and one young person who have had a positive impact on Brookline and who have not been recognized for their work. The 2007 Unsung Hero Award Celebration took place November 15 from 5-7pm at the Coolidge Corner Courtyard Mariott. The awards were given to Jim Margolies from the Brookline Emergency Food Pantry and Eva O’Brien, a Brookline High Student who is working on raising awareness of the AIDS/HIV crisis in South Africa. Each recipient is given a Letter of Award, a poster for the Unsung Hero Awards event signed by the artist, and an unrestricted cash award of $1,000 for the adult and $500 for the youth.

Along with the awards ceremony, special guest PALS Children's Chorus presented an inspiring selection of songs about giving, and the new volunteer resource guide BROOKLINE GIVES! was launched.

BROOKLINE GIVES! is a catalogue of volunteer opportunities, and a new collaboration between the Brookline Community Foundation and the Brookline Council on Aging. Through a resource guide, training, and coaching opportunities this program encourages and supports volunteerism in our community.

Volunteerism and civic engagement promote a healthier and safer community. The value gained from volunteer experience is important to the participants and integral to the enrichment of our local non-profits and related organizations. Brookline is fortunate to offer a rich array of cultural, civic, environmental, educational, spiritual, and social service opportunities appropriate for any age volunteer. If the Brookline Gives! guide does not have what you are looking for, call or e-mail the Brookline Community Foundation - we are happy to help connect you with a volunteer position that suits your needs, or direct to additional resources. contact@brooklinecommunity.org, or 617-566-4442.
