Brookline Teen Center Initiative
Brookline Teen Center InitiativeParents, educators, and other professionals working with youth agree that there is currently a shortage of services and opportunities for children between 6th and 12th grades in Brookline. In 2005 an exploratory group was convened to consider the feasibility of opening a Teen Community Center in Brookline to fulfill this need. The center will focus on fostering the healthy development of Brookline's teens in the areas of social/emotional functioning, physical / recreational activities, and academic enrichment. By providing a hub of programming for this age group, the teen center will make an enormous positive impact on the lives of teenagers in Brookline. Brookline Teen Center Fund supports the planning and realization of a center that will foster the healthy development of Brookline's teens. This fund was initially created with a gift from an anonymous donor to support a summer internship project that actively engaged 12 Brookline teenagers in the development of a vision, and in preliminary fundraising for the future Brookline Teen Center. The teens visited area teen centers and Boys and Girls Clubs, surveyed local teens, met with professional architects, designers and fundraisers, and planned and hosted a fundraising event at Fenway Park. The team raised a total of almost $50,000. |
