BCF Safety Net

“Thanks to the Safety Net, a family in crisis and on the verge of collapse will be stabilized with the parents working and the children attending school.” Marty Wisler, Coordinator, Brookline Community Foundation Safety Net

A Brookline family of four had to confront the serious illness of one of their children. In addition to the devastating emotional toll, the family was not covered by a health insurance plan and faced staggering medical expenses.  Subsequently, the parents lost their jobs, which led to a shortage of money and eviction from their rental housing. The family was on the brink of disaster.

With the help of the BCF Safety Net, this family moved into Brookline Public Housing, enrolled in a medical assistance program, and established a stable home life.  The BCF Safety Net helped to pay for the family’s first month’s rent and food until the parents found new jobs.  The BCF Safety Net also provided referrals for a local support group, assistance in enrolling their children in after school programs, and referrals for vocational counseling.
